It was not a crime to reveal Valerie Plame's name because she was not a covert agent. If it had been a crime, Special Prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald could have wrapped up his investigation with an indictment of the State Department's Richard Armitage on the first day of his investigation since it was Armitage who revealed her name and Fitzgerald knew it. With no crime to investigate, Fitzgerald pursued a pointless investigation into nothing, getting a lot of White House officials to make statements under oath and hoping some of their recollections would end up conflicting with other witness recollections, so he could charge some Republican with "perjury" and enjoy the fawning media attention. "The Mortgage Minute Guy" As a result, Libby is now a convicted felon for having a faulty memory of the person who first told him that Joe Wilson was a delusional boob who lied about his wife sending him to Niger. This makes it official: It's illegal to be Republican. Since Teddy Kennedy walked away from a dead girl with only a wrist slap (which was knocked down to a mild talking-to, plus time served: zero), Democrats have apparently become a protected class in America, immune from criminal prosecution no matter what they do. As a result, Democrats have run wild, accepting bribes, destroying classified information, lying under oath, molesting interns, driving under the influence, obstructing justice and engaging in sex with underage girls, among other things. Meanwhile, conservatives of any importance constantly have to spend millions of dollars defending themselves from utterly frivolous criminal prosecutions. Everything is illegal, but only Republicans get prosecuted. Conservative radio personality Rush Limbaugh was subjected to a three-year criminal investigation for allegedly buying prescription drugs illegally to treat chronic back pain. Despite the witch-hunt, Democrat prosecutor Barry E. Krischer never turned up a crime. Even if he had, to quote liberal Harvard Law professor Alan Dershowitz: "Generally, people who illegally buy prescription drugs are not prosecuted." Unless they're Republicans. The vindictive prosecution of Limbaugh finally ended last year with a plea bargain in which Limbaugh did not admit guilt. Gosh, don't you feel safer now? I know I do. In another prescription drug case with a different result, last year, Rep. Patrick Kennedy (Democrat), apparently high as a kite on prescription drugs, crashed a car on Capitol Hill at 3 a.m. That's abuse of prescription drugs plus a DUI offense. In 2006, Democrat and major Clinton contributor Jeffrey Epstein was nabbed in Palm Beach in a massive police investigation into his hiring of local underage schoolgirls for sex, which I'm told used to be a violation of some kind of statute in the Palm Beach area. The police presented Limbaugh prosecutor Krischer with boatloads of evidence, including the videotaped statements of five of Epstein's alleged victims, the procurer of the girls for Epstein and 16 other witnesses. But the same prosecutor who spent three years maniacally investigating Limbaugh's alleged misuse of back- pain pills refused to bring statutory rape charges against a Clinton contributor. Enraging the police, who had spent months on the investigation, Krischer let Epstein off after a few hours on a single count of solicitation of prostitution. The Clinton supporter walked, and his victims were branded as whores. The Republican former House Whip Tom DeLay is currently under indictment for a minor campaign finance violation. Democratic prosecutor Ronnie Earle had to empanel six grand juries before he could find one to indict Delay on these pathetic charges -- and this is in Austin, Texas (the Upper West Side with better-looking people). That final grand jury was so eager to indict DeLay that it indicted him on one charge that was not even a crime -- and which has since been tossed out by the courts. After winning his primary despite the indictment, DeLay decided to withdraw from the race rather than campaign under a cloud of suspicion, and Republicans lost one of their strongest champions in Congress. Compare Delay's case with that of Rep. William "The Refrigerator Jefferson, Democrat. Two years ago, an FBI investigation caught Jefferson on videotape taking $100,000 in bribe money. When the FBI searched Jefferson's house, they found $90,000 in cash stuffed in his freezer. Two people have already pleaded guilty to paying Jefferson the bribe money. Two years later, Bush's Justice Department still has taken no action against Jefferson. House Speaker Nancy Pelosl recently put Rep. William Jefferson on the Homeland Security Committee. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, Democrat, engaged in a complicated land swindle, buying a parcel of land for $400,000 and selling it for over $1 million a few years later. (At least it wasn't cattle futures!) Reid also received more than four times as much money from Jack Abramoff (nearly $70,000) as Tom Delay ($15,000). Delay returned the money; Reid refuses to do so. Why should he? He's a Democrat. Former Clinton national security adviser Sandy Berger literally received a sentence of community service for stuffing classified national security documents in his pants and then destroying them -- big, fat federal felonies. But Scooter Libby is facing real prison time for forgetting who told him about some bozo's wife. Bill Clinton was not even prosecuted for obstruction of justice offenses so egregious that the entire Supreme Court staged a historic boycott of his State of the Union address in 2000. By contrast, Linda Tripp, whose only mistake was befriending the office hosebag and then declining to perjure herself, spent millions on lawyers to defend a harassment prosecution based on far-fetched interpretations of state wiretapping laws. Liberal law professors currently warning about the "high price" of pursuing terrorists under the Patriot Act had nothing but blood lust for Tripp one year after Clinton was impeached (Steven Lubet, "Linda Tripp Deserves to be Prosecuted," New York Times, 8/25/99). Millionaire May Avoid Sex Offender Registry Page 1 of 2 NEWS Money Manager Said to Plan to Plead Guilty to Prostitution Charges Jeffrey Epstein May Serve About 18 Months Under a Deal With Prosecutors By SCOTT MICHELS Oct. 11, 2007 — Lawyers for Jeffrey Epstein, the millionaire New York money manager accused of soliciting underage prostitutes, are negotiating a plea deal with prosecutors and trying to keep Epstein from having to register as a sex offender if he pleads guilty, sources familiar with the case have confirmed to ABC News. Epstein was charged in July 2006 with solicitation of prostitution O a felony that carries up to five years in prison 0 for allegedly paying underage girls to give him erotic massages in his Palm Beach, Fla., —mansion. He has pleaded not guilty and has said he did not know any of the girls were underage. According to The New York Post, Epstein is negotiating a plea deal that is expected to land him in prison for about 18 months in addition to some time under house arrest. As part of the deal, confirmed to ABC News by people familiar with the case, federal authorities are expected to drop their investigation into whether Epstein broke federal laws, which could carry more substantial prison time. Now, Epstein's high-powered lawyers, including Kenneth Starr, who investigated President Clinton during the Monica Lewinsky scandal, may try to get him out of registering as a sex offender, The Post reported. People familiar with the case confirmed to ABC News that federal prosecutors still want Epstein, who owns what is reported to be the largest house in Manhattan, to register as a sex offender as part of the deal, though state prosecutors have not demanded that he do so. Under Florida law, people convicted of solicitation of prostitution are not required to register as sex offenders. Mike Edmonson, a spokesman for the Palm Beach County State Attorney's Office, declined to comment, saying the office does not comment on "active prosecutions." Through an assistant, Starr also declined to comment. A spokeswoman for the U.S. Attorney's Office did not return a call for comment. Epstein's lawyer Gerald Lefcourt, the former president of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, also declined to comment. Bruce Winick, a criminal law professor at the University of Miami, said it was not inappropriate to negotiate over whether Epstein would have to register as sex offender. In sworn statements to the police, a 14-year-old girl and other teenage girls said a friend had arranged for them to visit Epstein's home and give him massages, often in their underwear, in exchange for cash. The police report alleges that Epstein had sex with some of the girls. The affidavit says Epstein's assistant took down the names and numbers of the girls. Investigators watched Epstein's 7,234-square-foot waterfront home and private jet, searched through his trash and interviewed more than a dozen witnesses before making the arrest. Local police believed they had probable cause to charge Epstein with lewd and lascivious molestation and unlawful sexual activity with a minor. But, prosecutor Barry Krischer took the somewhat unusual step of handing the case over to a grand jury, providing jurors with a list of the possible charges against Epstein. Local criminal lawyers, who were not involved in the case, speculated that Krischer was being cautious or that the alleged victims had credibility issues that would come up at trial. "I assume these women had serious holes in their stories," said Richard Tendler, a Palm Beach criminal defense lawyer. The Associated Press reported that Epstein's attorneys, including Harvard professor Alan Dershowitz, presented prosecutors with evidence that some of the girls had criminal records and issues with drugs and alcohol. Lawyers claimed that at least one of the girls was older than 18, the agency reported. Dershowitz did not return a call for comment. The grand jury indicted Epstein in July 2006 on one count of felony solicitation of a prostitute. That charge does not require him to register as a sex offender. Police at the time said they had enough evidence to charge Epstein with more serious sex offenses, prompting criticism that the reportedly reclusive financier, who once counted among his friends Clinton and Donald Trump, was getting preferential treatment. Police Chief Michael Reiter, in a May 2006 letter to Krischer, called Krischer's handling of the case "highly unusual" and asked him to disqualify himself from the case. He also referred the case to the FBI to see whether Epstein may have violated federal law. Howard Rubenstein, Epstein's spokesman, said Epstein had no comment. He declined to discuss the case. Epstein's lawyers may try to settle with all the women at once, a person familiar with the negotiations confirmed to ABC News. The story was first reported by the New York Post. Epstein is said to be negotiating a plea deal with Florida prosecutors that is expected to land him in prison for about 18 months. He was charged last year with one count of solicitation of prostitution, a felony that carries up to five years in prison, for allegedly paying underage girls to give him erotic massages. He has pleaded not guilty and has said he didn't know any of the girls were underage. Lead attorney Gerald Lefcourt, the former president of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, did not return a call for comment Monday. He has previously declined to comment on the case. Guy Fronstin, another of Epstein's lawyers, declined to comment. It was not immediately clear how many women had contacted Epstein's attorneys, threatening to sue, but people familiar with the case said it was more than the five alleged victims described in police documents. The lawsuit, filed late Tuesday in Manhattan's state Supreme Court, says financier Jeffrey Epstein had the teen give him oral sex when she brought photographs of herself for him to review in his Upper East Side mansion sometime in 2000. Court papers say Epstein, 54, removed all of his clothes, pushed the girl's head toward his crotch, and told her, "You know what to do. If you want me to help you then you have to help me." Epstein, a money manager, told the teen he managed finances for Victoria's Secret and "could you into the catalogue" if she were "nice" to him, court papers say. They say being "nice" included massages and other favors. When the girl told Epstein, "I am 16 years old and just want to model," he replied, "Don't worry I won't tell anybody," court papers say. The lawsuit says Epstein also told the girl, "I would love for you to come with me to Thailand to pick up other girls your age." The young woman, now 23, kept returning to Epstein because she has "mental issues," said her lawyer William J. Unroch. He refused to elaborate, but court papers say she was "disabled as a result of severe mental disease and defect." Epstein's lawyer in New York, Gerald Lefcourt, said, "The girl has admitted she is insane, but she can read a newspaper and recognize the word 'rich."' Lefcourt also said the statute of limitations has expired for the young woman's case both criminally and civilly and will almost certainly be dismissed. Lefcourt, whose client's include actor Russell Crowe and comic Tracy Morgan, refused to comment on Epstein's Florida case. Meanwhile, Unroch, 57, also acknowledged that his client was living with him and was at the center of a $10 million lawsuit he filed last year against a neighbor who said he was having sex with underage girls.
