Who is Joanne in the Epstein files?

In most of the documents, Joanne appears to be an assistant or office contact for Tommy Mottola. They email Epstein's assistant Lesley Groff to arrange calls and meetings between Mottola and Epstein, and a 2014 email refers to 'Joanne in Tommy Mottola's office.' No surname is given in these threads. Other documents use the same first name for unrelated people.

What did Joanne's emails with Lesley Groff discuss?

They are mostly short scheduling messages. Topics include whether Mottola ('TM') was in New York or East Hampton, whether he would call or visit Epstein, and the address of an East Hampton gallery. In December 2012, Groff asked Joanne for Enrique Iglesias's phone number on Epstein's behalf. Groff said Iglesias had called Epstein about selling his airplane to him. The messages do not say what Epstein and Mottola discussed.

Does the name 'Joanne' on the flight manifests refer to the same person?

That cannot be determined from the documents. Three January 2002 manifest entries list only 'JOANNE' with no surname or other identifying detail. Nothing in the files ties them to the email correspondent or to any other Joanne, so they should be read as unidentified.

Is there evidence of wrongdoing by Joanne?

No. The emails are routine scheduling and logistics. Appearing in the documents does not by itself indicate any wrongdoing.

The name 'Joanne' most often refers to a person who appears to work in music executive Tommy Mottola's office. They exchanged scheduling emails with Epstein's assistant Lesley Groff between 2011 and 2017 to set up calls and meetings between Mottola and Epstein. The name also appears in unrelated records that point to other people, so it is not a single identifiable individual.

Most of the 160 documents are email threads with the subject line 'Jeffrey Epstein', where Joanne is a direct sender or recipient opposite Lesley Groff. They relay Mottola's availability (referred to as 'TM'), confirm calls, and pass along details such as a gallery address in East Hampton. A July 2014 email says 'Joanne in Tommy Mottola's office' suggested a restaurant contact. A few non-email records use the same first name for different people, including a financial professional named Joanne Jensen, an Australian police email list, and an investigations staff directory. Three January 2002 flight manifest entries list only 'JOANNE', with no surname.

Key Highlights

•About 74 emails have Joanne in the From/To/Cc header, almost all in threads with Lesley Groff, Epstein's assistant. They run from 2011 to 2017 and mostly arrange contact between Epstein and Tommy Mottola.
•In an August 2017 thread, Joanne tells Groff that Mottola is happy to talk and wants to call Epstein directly. Groff replies that 'Jeffrey says YES to a call from Tommy this morning,' and Joanne writes 'confirmed.'
•In a December 2012 thread, Groff asks Joanne for a phone number for Enrique (Iglesias, per the entity connections). Joanne replies that 'TM asks what is it for?' Groff answers that Enrique had called Epstein about selling his airplane to Epstein. Groff follows up the next day to ask whether Mottola and Epstein had spoken.
•Other threads cover Mottola's whereabouts, such as being in a workshop in October 2011 and being on the Upper East Side one morning in March 2012. In August 2017 Joanne writes that he is in East Hampton all week and asks about the following week. In September 2011 Joanne sends the address of Gallery Valentine in East Hampton.
•Three flight manifest entries dated January 17, 20 and 22, 2002 list only 'JOANNE.' The documents do not say whether this is the same person as the email correspondent, so the entries should not be linked to the assistant without further evidence.
•The name is ambiguous. Documents also mention Joanne Jensen, who was described in a financial presentation as having known banker Ben Navarro since 1993. They also mention Joanne Shanahan on a South Australia police email distribution list and Joanne Hoedtke in an investigations staff directory. None of these is shown to be connected to Epstein.
