Watch: Lana Zakocela in the Epstein files
1:11Narrated from the AI-generated summary of the documents. Numbers reflect the archive at generation time.
Lana Zakocela appears in the files as a personal correspondent of Jeffrey Epstein. Her emails from 2017 to early 2018 are casual and mostly arrange meetings. Skype logs and staff emails from 2009 to 2011 show the contact goes back several years earlier.
The clearest material is a run of emails between Zakocela and Epstein's [email protected] account from June 2017 to January 2018. In them she suggests lunch or tea, they sort out where to meet (the Ritz or the Plaza), and she says where she is travelling (Paris, Los Angeles, Costa Rica, New York). Earlier records include Skype call and chat logs from 2010 and 2011 listing her as a participant, a May 2010 email in which Lesley Groff books a car for her to JFK, and a 2009 email in which Daniel Siad gives her full name. Most of the 68 documents are emails, and many are repeated copies of the same few threads. None are legal, government, financial or travel records.
Key Highlights
- •Between July 2017 and January 2018 she exchanged informal emails with Epstein, many with the subject 'Hi'. They cover lunch or tea plans on 9–10 July 2017 and an exchange about whether to meet at the Ritz or the Plaza.
- •Her messages mention travel and whereabouts: 'Paris', Los Angeles in September 2017, Costa Rica in July 2017 and 'In nyc for now' in October 2017. In one reply Epstein says he is 'not back until 28'.
- •In the 2017 emails she says 'I heard about JL. Had quiet a shock!! Sorry.' The documents do not say who 'JL' is.
- •In September 2017 she wrote 'I hope your island is ok!' and later 'Except you were married to your island much much lo…'. These are passing remarks, and the text does not explain them.
- •Skype logs from 2010 and 2011 show her as a participant in chats and calls with Epstein's account (jeevacation), including messages such as 'well?' and 'whre areyou'.
- •In May 2010 Lesley Groff emailed Epstein that she had booked a Citicar for Lana to go to JFK the next night. In October 2009 Daniel Siad gave Epstein her full name and suggested he call her.
- •In a September 2011 email, Ramsey Elkholy asked Epstein to put in a good word for Zakocela, who would be in Riga the following week. This is the only item where a third party is quoted describing her.
- •She is linked to Epstein in 66 of the 68 documents. Most of the other names that appear alongside hers are venues or alternate forms of her own name, such as the Plaza and 'Lana Z', and Ashley McRoy shares 4 documents with her.
