Watch: David Stern in the Epstein files
1:12Narrated from the AI-generated summary of the documents. Numbers reflect the archive at generation time.
David Stern, a German-French businessman and former aide to Prince Andrew, wrote to Jeffrey Epstein for about seven years, from 2011 to 2018. The files contain hundreds of direct emails between them, and Epstein's staff scheduled meetings with Stern in Paris, New York and elsewhere.
Stern is in the To/From/Cc header of 927 emails. They include his exchanges with Epstein and his scheduling exchanges with Epstein's assistant Lesley Groff. In emails dated 2011 to 2018 he writes to Epstein's [email protected] account about business deals, travel, introductions and contacts in China, Russia and the Gulf. Epstein's calendar entries list appointments with him, including one at Epstein's Paris apartment on September 11, 2015. Nearly all of the 3,736 documents that mention him are emails. Only a handful are travel, financial or other records.
Key Highlights
- •Stern's correspondence with Epstein is extensive and personal in tone. It runs from 2011 to 2018 and includes short, informal exchanges. On July 12, 2018, he replied to Epstein with 'Have I been trained by you to fly commercial ??' and discussed a plan in Moscow.
- •Epstein's calendar and itinerary entries list meetings with Stern. They include a 6:00pm appointment in New York in October 2013, a 2:00pm appointment on another day, and a 9:30am appointment at the Paris apartment on September 11, 2015. Stern asked Epstein 'Friday in Paris? What time?' in the lead-up to that meeting.
- •Stern worked often with Lesley Groff, Epstein's assistant, on timing and logistics. In May 2014 he wrote to change a planned New York trip and asked for a meeting. In September 2018 he and Groff discussed an arrival time of about 6:30am. In January 2017 he wrote to Epstein: 'When and where can we meet? Any location ok for me.'
- •The emails show business discussions. In April 2015 he wrote of a 'last open point before term sheet can be signed'. In March 2016 he replied to Epstein about the 'Buhl Office Building Investment'. In 2012 he sent a draft guest list for a 'China Night' event. In June 2013 he told Epstein that 'PA' would be in Silicon Valley on June 25 and 26 and asked whom Epstein wanted him to see. Epstein answered 'Yes, Steve Sinofsky'.
- •In 2012 Stern arranged a meeting in Kiev involving Karyna Shuliak, who gave him her phone number in an email chain on July 20, 2012. In 2018 he also wrote to Epstein about China, Qatar and Russia, for example: 'Death of chinese shareholder quite an issue. What can we do with Qatari...'.
- •Public reporting describes Stern as an aide to Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and as director of the Pitch@Palace programme from 2016. News coverage of the DOJ-released emails says he gave Epstein information on British companies such as Aston Martin and Royal Bank of Scotland, and discussed setting up a private investment office that would use the former prince's 'aura and access'. Reports say it is unclear whether Andrew knew. In February 2026 he resigned from the Cambridge Judge Business School advisory board.
- •Search results did not confirm any Michelin House link to Stern. The 238 shared documents with Michelin House appear as a statistical connection in the archive. Readers should check those documents directly.
