The DOJ OIG (Department of Justice Office of the Inspector General) investigated the circumstances surrounding Jeffrey Epstein's death while in federal custody, focusing on the conduct of Bureau of Prisons (BOP) personnel. They released a report in June 2023 detailing failures and misconduct by MCC New York staff that contributed to Epstein's suicide.
The DOJ OIG appears in connection with their investigation into Jeffrey Epstein's death at the Metropolitan Correctional Center (MCC) in New York. Their investigation focused on the conduct of BOP personnel and identified numerous failures and misconduct. The OIG also requested evidence from the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner as part of their investigation. In December 2025, senators requested that the DOJ OIG perform an audit of the Department's compliance with the Epstein Files Transparency Act.
