Internal DOJ email chain from August 2020 showing federal prosecutors in the Southern District of New York coordinating with the Office of the Deputy Attorney General to obtain criminal case files from the Southern District of Florida related to the Ghislaine Maxwell prosecution.
This document is an internal government email exchange between prosecutors at the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York (SDNY) and the Office of the Deputy Attorney General (ODAG). Dated August 18-19, 2020—just weeks after Ghislaine Maxwell's July 2, 2020 arrest—the emails show SDNY prosecutors seeking access to hard-copy criminal files still held by the Southern District of Florida from the original 2006-2008 Epstein investigation. The correspondence references prior discussions with the Office of Professional Responsibility and mentions ongoing CVRA (Crime Victims' Rights Act) litigation. A Criminal Chief at SDFL is identified as the point of contact for locating these materials.

Seems like may be we should reach out in the first instance given that it's the crim div chief? Also, team never responded on the draft of the letter. Have you heard anything from them? I don't think there's any way we get it filed by Friday at this point, but I suppose there is no magic to that date. We've since had a number of productive conversations with the folks at OPR you pointed us to, and we think it would be helpful to also make contact with someone at SDFL purely for the purpose of ascertaining what hard-copy materials they still have related to the case down there and how we could best arrange to obtain and review copies. We have had very limited contact with an AUSA in the SDFL civil division who we understand was the primary point of contact on issues related to the CVRA litigation. Do you know, does he remain the best point of contact for the issues we hope to discuss, or is there someone else in that office we should reach out to? EFTA00015895

Thanks, M. Among our questions was who, whether at ODAG, SDFL, or NDGA we should be in touch with at this point regarding documents. I also know OPR did a significant document collection last year. We will reach back to OPR, but if there is a particular point of contact at SDFL or NDGA on issues related to document collection, in particular, please let us know. And if a call on those issues would be helpful, happy to set one up. (ODAG) < Happy to talk, but my only real role related to recusal issues and consequences. Now that the CVRA litigation is over, you probably are best going directly to SDFL, as I don't have any of their documents. Thanks, M. Associate Deputy Attorney General Office: Cell: From: (USANYS) Sent: Tuesday, July 21, 2020 6:23 PM To: (ODAG) Cc: (USANYS) Subject: Epstein/Maxwell M— Hope all is well. We had spoken last summer, after the Epstein case was charged, about some potential document/discovery requests related to the SDFL investigation and the NPA, in particular. Those conversations were largely at mooted at the time by Epstein's death, but as I'm sure you know, we've recently charged Ghislaine Maxwell and, anticipating potentially similar issues, we were hoping to revisit those conversations. Do you have time later this week for a quick call? If so, please let us know what might work for you.
