I Foundation Epstein was born in Brooklyn, New York to a middle-class Jewish family. His father worked for New York City's parksP1 Epstein attended Isfayette High School. He attended classes at Cooper Union from 1969 to 1971 and later at the Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences at NYU. He left without a degree.
