Physicist Lawrence Krauss, ASU professor, received Epstein funding for Origins Project
Watch: Krauss Lawrence in the Epstein files
1:07Narrated from the AI-generated summary of the documents. Numbers reflect the archive at generation time.
Physicist Lawrence Krauss, an Arizona State University professor and director of its Origins Project, appears in the files as a long-running correspondent of Jeffrey Epstein's office. The emails run from 2013 to 2017, mostly with Epstein's assistant Lesley Groff, and cover scheduling, travel and logistics.
He appears in 173 documents, 169 of them emails. In 62 emails he is in the From/To/Cc header, so this is direct correspondence. Most are from Lesley Groff, who arranges calls and meetings between Krauss and Epstein, passes on hotel and travel details, and follows up on requests Epstein made. Krauss is also listed among scientists in an Epstein contact list, and his Origins Project signature block appears in forwarded messages. Only 3 of the documents are travel records, and the files hold no flight logs, court filings or financial records naming him. Many of his entries carry the address label 'Case Western Reserve Univ. Krauss Lawrence', which appears to come from an older contact entry listing him as Chairman of Physics.
Key Highlights
- •Lesley Groff's emails to Krauss run from 2013 to 2017. They arrange calls and in-person meetings with Epstein, including a Saturday meeting at 'Martin's office' in September 2016 that was moved from 11 am to noon.
- •In October 2015 Groff wrote that she and Karyna were asking 'a few of Jeffrey's personal friends' about a birthday for Epstein, and the email was sent to Krauss.
- •In December 2015 and January 2016 Groff followed up with Krauss about a 'short little letter'. The emails shown don't make clear who the letter was for or what it said.
- •Groff sent Krauss hotel details for Epstein's March 2015 stay at a Ritz-Carlton and asked for his flight details. In December 2013 she said Epstein wanted bios printed for the scientists attending an event.
- •In July 2017 Groff offered to arrange Epstein's driver for Krauss's trip to Paris and later wrote that Epstein asked Krauss to arrange his own rides to and from his hotel. In October 2017 she forwarded Krauss a list of rental listings at The Boulders.
- •A 2017 email from Epstein's assistant asks for a document to be scanned and returned, with Krauss's Origins Project at ASU signature attached.
- •In 2018 a correspondent, Patricia Barnes, forwarded Krauss articles about misconduct allegations against other public figures. One message says 'not that your case is remotely like these', so the files show he was dealing with allegations of his own at that time. They don't describe those allegations.
- •The emails show contact, hospitality and logistics. They don't by themselves show wrongdoing by Krauss, and none of the documents describe a specific funding transaction.
