Who is Barry Josephson in the Epstein files?

He is a Hollywood producer, formerly president of Columbia Pictures and head of Josephson Entertainment. In the files he appears as a direct correspondent of Jeffrey Epstein and his staff, mainly from 2011 to 2017. The records show meetings, business and financial discussions, and a $200,000 promissory note with Epstein.

What was the financial connection between Josephson and Epstein?

A promissory note dated October 15, 2013 names Josephson as borrower and Epstein as payee, for $200,000. Separately, a list of deposits into Epstein's accounts shows $200,000 from "Barry Jay Josephson" on 11/13/2013, and another record lists "P. Barry Josephson Promissory Note" among Epstein's papers. The direction and purpose of the money are not stated in the text, and his 2011 and 2013 emails about deals and financials suggest business dealings. The files do not show wrongdoing by him.

Do the documents show Josephson visiting Epstein?

They show scheduled meetings. In June 2015 Groff coordinated a 4:30 pm meeting at Epstein's East 71st Street home, and in May 2016 Epstein agreed to a visit at 11 am. A 2015 itinerary also lists a tentative visit to "the Ranch" (Zorro Ranch). The files do not describe what was discussed at any of these.

Does being named in these files mean Josephson did anything wrong?

No. The documents show professional and social contact and financial dealings, but they do not accuse him of misconduct. Epstein's files include many business associates, and being named is not evidence of wrongdoing.

Narrated from the AI-generated summary of the documents. Numbers reflect the archive at generation time.

Barry Josephson, a film and TV producer and former Columbia Pictures president, corresponded directly with Jeffrey Epstein over several years (2011–2017). The files also include financial records that link him to Epstein: a $200,000 promissory note dated October 15, 2013 and a $200,000 entry under his name in a 2013 list of deposits to Epstein's accounts.

Most of Josephson's appearances are emails, and roughly 259 have him in the From/To/Cc header. These include scheduling messages, business exchanges and forwarded news links. A smaller set of financial records covers a $200,000 promissory note naming him as borrower and Epstein as payee, a $200,000 entry under his name in a list of deposits to Epstein's accounts, and a "P. Barry Josephson Promissory Note" listed among Epstein's papers. He also appears in a 2015 itinerary and in calendar to-do items. Many of the other mentions are repeated copies of the same threads, so the 837-document count overstates the number of distinct interactions.

Key Highlights

•A promissory note for $200,000, dated October 15, 2013, names Barry Josephson as borrower and Jeffrey E. Epstein as the party to be paid. A separate list titled "Capitalization of Jeffrey Epstein's NOW/SuperNOW accounts" shows $200,000 from "Barry Jay Josephson" on 11/13/2013, and it appears in several copies. The text does not show which way the money went or why.
•Another record annotates a wire linked to "Barry Jay Josephson" (dated 10/17/2013) with the note "This may be an American film producer and former President of Columbia Pictures (1991 — 1997)." That is an investigator's tentative identification.
•Business emails from 2011 to 2013 involve Epstein and, in some, his accountant Richard Kahn. They include a 2011 "Loan" thread in which Josephson explains how a "Dan Crown deal" works because Epstein had asked, an October 2013 email titled "Deal is hard!" with a DocuSign attachment, and an October 2013 "Update" saying he hoped the financials forwarded by Amy Chen were enough information. A promissory note from Josephson also appears in an index of Epstein's documents.
•Epstein's assistant Lesley Groff arranged in-person meetings. In June 2015 she moved a meeting to 4:30 pm at Epstein's Manhattan address (9 East 71st Street). Further emails with Josephson run from 2013 through 2017, mostly under the subject "Jeffrey Epstein."
•A 2015 travel itinerary lists "TBD Barry Josephson at the Ranch" for a day of Epstein's travel via Burbank, apparently a visit to Zorro Ranch in New Mexico. The entry is tentative ("TBD"), so the files do not confirm that it happened.
•In May 2016 Josephson asked to "drop by" and Epstein replied "Yes." In June 2016 Josephson forwarded Epstein political news links, including a Washington Post poll story and a humorous "Trump Force One" item.
•In October 2016 Groff asked whether she could share Josephson's contact information with Soon-Yi (Previn). The files show Epstein's approval ("OK to share"), and Josephson had written to Groff about it the night before.
•Calendar to-do items note "Need to hear from Katherine Khaut, Assistant Candidate from Barry Josephson," which suggests Josephson referred a job candidate to Epstein's office.
