Watch: Bahamas in the Epstein files
1:11Narrated from the AI-generated summary of the documents. Numbers reflect the archive at generation time.
The Bahamas appears in 803 documents as a place Epstein and people around him travelled to, communicated from, and sent mail to. It shows up in flight and travel records, FBI interview notes, phone and FedEx billing, and legal filings. It is a location, not a person, so these records show where things happened or were alleged to happen, not wrongdoing by the country.
The most substantive appearances are travel and financial records. These include a ferry-flight itinerary with stops in Nassau and Great Exuma, an international flight filing for a March 2, 2010 trip from West Palm Beach to Nassau, cellphone bills with Bahamas roaming charges, and FedEx receipts for packages sent to Epstein's New York address from a sender labelled "JANUSZ BAHAMAS" in 2005. Government and FBI-style interview notes also mention the Bahamas, including an informant's claim that tapes were hidden in a house there and a recollection that Epstein sometimes took trips there. Legal filings mention the Bahamas in connection with Peter Nygard's estate and offshore-company databases. Of the 803 documents, 625 are emails and 120 of those are automated newsletters (for example, real-estate auction alerts) sent to Epstein's own Yahoo account, so a good share of the mentions are incidental.
Key Highlights
- •Travel records show flights routed through Nassau and Great Exuma, including a March 2010 flight from West Palm Beach to Nassau filed under tail number N491GM.
- •An FBI-style interview summary relays a claim that tapes were kept in a secret compartment of a drawer at a house in the Bahamas, and that there was another studio apartment there. This is a source's claim in the document, not an established finding.
- •Another interview summary says Epstein's pilots might use his aircraft for vacations, and that Epstein himself would occasionally fly to places like the Bahamas.
- •FedEx receipts from 2005 list a sender called "JANUSZ BAHAMAS" shipping packages to Epstein's New York apartment. A phone bill shows roaming charges "while in Bahamas."
- •Several government and legal documents describe allegations that Peter Nygard recruited young women to "pamper parties" at his Bahamas estate. These allegations concern Nygard, not Epstein.
- •A transcript-style document has a speaker recalling that Sarah Ferguson had been in the Bahamas before Epstein met Prince Andrew. The speaker says they are speculating.
- •The Bahamas also appears in offshore-jurisdiction lists (the ICIJ Offshore Leaks database filter) and in a UBS (Bahamas) Ltd disclaimer. Neither shows a link to Epstein.
- •Many mentions are incidental, such as hurricane news, sports results, tourism ads, and real-estate auction newsletters for an Eleuthera property.
