Discropancy: Tho outer akin of the upper skin assembly of the aft fairing is disbanded and the aft edge of the outer skin has two cracks. See sketch below from ERDS. II. Proposed Disposition: Remove the outer skin of the upper skin assembly and bond on a new outer skin using FM 73 adhesive and BR 127 adhesive primer. The cracks at the aft odge have been reported to be along a previous repair that was filled with a fiberglass patch repair. The fiberglass patch will be removed and replaced with a metallic patch and doubler. All metallic materials will be the same as BP materials. III. Static Analysis: The aft faking is analyzed in section 10 of Reference 1. In section 10 of Reference the substructure has been analyzed to withstand all the aerodynamic loading without using any of the skin as affective. Therefore, this analysis will only investigate the capability of the adhesive to carry the shear stress to the core conservatively assuming that the skin will carry the aerodynamic loading. From VA545300, t = .016, to = .032 and t, = .30. h = .016/2 + .032/2 + .30 = .324 in f c = V / hb = 11.25 / .324(1.0) = 34.7 lbs/in2 From the certification sheet shown at the end of this analysis, the allowable lap shear for the FM 73 adhesive is 6.523 psi at 75° F. Since there is nu test data readily available for this adhesive system for core bond, a comparison of this adhesive system will be made to EA9649R (RMS 058). From figure 3.3.2 of Reference 2, aluminum core and face sheet with EA9649R adhesive has an allowable of 220 psi for the BP core configuration. Since the lap shear for the repair adhesive is significantly higher than EA9649R (2,838 psi at 75° F), it is reasonable to assume that 34.7 psi core shear Is acceptable for this adhesive system. The repair at the aft end of the faking is acceptable by inspection since the aerodynamic load is very little to nil at this location. IV_ Fatigue Analysis: Repair is acceptable for fatigue strength by inspection since the ultimate margin is high and there are no additional stress concentrations compared to the type design. Complied with P&W Alert 6038R5 and AD 94-20-01; corrosion inspect high pressure compressor disks. Complied with Pratt & Whitney Alert 5/8 6196R5; #5 bearing seal assembly. Improved oil return & compartment sealing configuration. Complied with P&W Alert S/B 6110 and Alert S/B 6131, AD 94-20.08. This terminates -reinspection requirements for P&W Alert S/B 5913R6, AD 93-06-05. Engine was preserved forshort term storage IAW Pratt & Whitney JT8D Engine Manual (P/N 481672).
