Custody status of a defendant is subject to change during the course of the criminal proceedings. To receive the timeliest update to your case, please provide and verify your email address, as instructed below. As of August 10, 2019, Jeffrey Epstein is not in the custody of the U.S. Marshal Service. The defendant is deceased. And simply say: On August 10, 2019, Jeffrey Epstein died while in custody at the Manhattan Correctional Center. Or something to that effect. Is that doable? Totally recognize it's a BOP issue—I would guess it says USMS because I think up until a defendant is sentenced the defendant is technically in USMS custody, and the marshals elect to house the defendants through BOP. But I don't have a view at all on what the letter should say about that. If so, I definitely have edits, among them being I don't think we can refer to the USMS, I think this is a BOP issue.
