This is a June 2020 FOIA response letter from the Federal Bureau of Prisons to The New York Times regarding their lawsuit and records request about Jeffrey Epstein.
A cover letter from the Bureau of Prisons' Central Office responding to a FOIA lawsuit filed by The New York Times (Civil No. 20-cv-833, FOIA Request No. 2019-05665). The letter, signed by Eugene E. Baime, describes the first batch of records being released: 10 pages in full, 9 pages partially redacted, 1 duplicate page, and 434 pages completely withheld. Most records were withheld under law enforcement and privacy exemptions (b)(5), (b)(6), (b)(7)(A-E), suggesting the BOP was protecting deliberative communications, attorney-client privilege, ongoing enforcement proceedings, and investigative techniques related to Epstein's incarceration and death.
