An internal email between SDNY prosecutors coordinating the review of 30,000 documents from the Southern District of Florida Epstein file for Ghislaine Maxwell's pretrial disclosure deadlines.
This March 2021 email from a Deputy Chief of the Public Corruption Unit at the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York discusses the logistical challenges of reviewing the Southern District of Florida's Epstein case file. The prosecution team had paid a vendor to scan the file in October 2020, and it was being loaded into Relativity (an e-discovery platform) for review. With a pretrial disclosure deadline at the end of April 2021, the team recruited 4 paralegals and an intern from the Public Corruption Unit, plus requested 3-4 additional paralegals to review approximately 30,000 documents to determine what had already been produced to the defense.

As you may recall, we paid a vendor to scan the SDFL Epstein file in October, and we are hopeful that it will be loaded into Relativity by the end of March (the delay was unfortunate, but we're hopeful PAE can make it happen soon). In order to meet pretrial disclosure deadlines, we need to review the file (which we understand to be 30k documents) to determine what has already been produced. We have recruited 4 paralegals and an intern in PC to help conduct this review, and have requested an additional 3-4 paralegals from Darcy to assist. The deadline is the end of April, so the team has about a month to complete the review. Happy to discuss any further if you have any questions. Thanks very much, Deputy Chief, Public Corruption Unit U.S. Attorney's Office Southern District of New York Desk Cell EFTA00019021
