They started out in the weeds; I said (in 90 seconds) that we had to start at 100,000' and that was about mission, goals and strategy for foreign assistance. Carly F then said that she was so glad to be part of this commission, and then, over the next 20 minutes in fourteen ways said she felt that this had to be about mission, goals and strategy. Then we go into the big meeting. Carly starts talking (12 minutes) about empowering women and thinking big and don't discard the past and yada yada. I then say (90 seconds) that I think our focus should be about helping to create functional governance and a strong economy for the target country. Carly then adopts as her own vernacular "functional governance" and "strong economy". Crowd says that Carly is right and that we need to establish mission, goals and strategy around functional governance and strong economy. I am cracking up, this is DC. End of meeting a guy comes up to me who didn't say a word: "Sir, I am from the Dept of Defense. You got it right, we want to support you, but for political reasons we need to show up in the 4th Quarter."
