Marcia Horowitz -- The Smooth River Book: Finding Inspiration and Exquisite Beauty during Terminal Illness. Lessons from the Front Line.
Dear All, Hope everyone is well. As you may know, Marcia Horowitz, a veteran of Rubenstein Associates for over 41 years, passed away last year. I am her husband. During Marcia's 160-day bout with stage 4 pancreatic cancer, doctors and nurses regularly told us that the approach we took in managing Marcia's illness was more uplifting than the norm. The approach was in large part directed by Marcia, who, like for clients, found the calm within her own storm. She opted for clarity and openness, not wanting to see her life as a tragedy or be defined by cancer. This approach enabled us to make the most of Marcia's remaining time, and not be swept into negative spirals. After Marcia passed on February 10, 2020, doctors, nurses and others encouraged me to write a book about the experience. It's called The Smooth River: Finding Inspiration and Exquisite Beauty during Terminal Illness. Lessons from the Front Line. The book is not a memoir or a how-to book in the traditional sense. The only purpose is to help other people, using our experience as a case study to derive some vital lessons in dealing with terminal disease or other tumultuous event, medical or other. So far, the book has received some very good reviews. See https://www.smoothriver.org/reviews. The book will be released on October 26, 2021, November being Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month. Pre-order information is available by: * clicking here * going to Amazon - here, * going to Barnes and Noble - here, or * or plugging in your zip code and finding your local bookstore here.
