From: on behalf of Ben Goertzel <an To: Jeffrey Epstein <[email protected]> Subject: Chinese NSF funding Date: Tue, 18 Aug 2009 14:13:44 +0000 Hah ... I have just heard from the Chinese university where I visited this summer, and where I'm an adjunct faculty (Xiamen University). It seems that, based on the Chinese NSF funding I got, there will be a couple PhD students and a few MS students working on applying my AI ideas to control a humanoid robot, in China. This will be a 3 year project. I don't know how it will go, supervising these Chinese students remotely via email and chat, but at least it's something. Of course these Chinese will not be nearly as efficient as my current team (who I will shortly be laying off; many are already laid off.) But, at least, this is a way that progress on my "build a thinking machine" initiative can continue even in the absence of funding for my team ... so long as I myself have time to supervise the Chinese team ;-) Getting to know the Chinese research community a bit this summer was pretty interesting; when you're less busy we could have an interesting chat about it... ben EFTA00773784
